We took off this morning heading towards Chicago. Actually our goal was to make it just north of Chicago and to the town of Willamette. Kamrin’s Mom grew up in Willamette on the north shore of Lake Michigan. The house is slated to be sold and we wanted to visit one more time.
As luck would have it we found an awesome German restaurant off the highway when we stopped for a refuel and figured we might as well check out their Bavarian fare. Check out the video from this unique stop near Fort Douglas, WI.
We rolled into Willamette in the late afternoon and drove Kodi right up the driveway of her Grandfather’s house in this glitzy neighborhood. Kamrin’s cousin Matthew, who attends North Western, and his girlfriend Hannah were great host and made us feel at home in the house despite the lack of furniture. Matthew fired up the grill and we made due with the few accouterments that still remained.
Here is a little video postcard of the stop.
We had to eat standing up since there were no tables or chairs left in the place. In truth we didn’t mind. It was sad to see the house totally empty but at least it was full of fellowship tonight. Matt and Hannah had a project to work on and took off before it got too late.
Since there were no beds in the house we just used the facilities and retired to the trailer when it was time to sleep. Yeah baby you don’t get much more white trash than this. Sleeping in a travel trailer in one of Chicago’s wealthiest suburbs. LOL. Well that’s how we roll.
