We continued East along Hwy 5 today through some of the most amazing scenery we have gawked at yet. Miles and miles of snow capped peaks and out little Kodi gliding down along the freeway with nary a soul in sight.
Awe inspiring is an understatement for this kind of visceral natural wonder. I mean you just feel the majesty of it all in your bones and just pray for another turn in the road so the magic of the ride won’t be over too soon. On the road it is moments like this that make the journey worth making. A memory etched indelibly on your soul by Mother Nature’s handiwork.

As lunch approached we pulled of into a quaint town called Revelstoke. A few locals guided us to the local mid day hot spot and a few minutes later we found ourselves munching on two tasty burritos at the Modern café. The place was hopping and the clientèle who passed through the doors smiled in a way that bespoke of their pleasure of calling this little mountain gem home.
As you have come to realize by now, I have a problem, a fetish or perhaps it’s just an insatiable appetite for info, but it nonetheless manifests in a compulsion to spend time in book stores and with my nose in the middle of some fascinating bit of non-fiction. With a little guidance from the proprietor of this little shop I picked up a book called “The End of Food: How the Food Industry is Destroying Our Food Supply–And What We Can Do About It” by Thomas F. Pawlick. Having devoured the “100 Mile Diet” I was hungry for more info about our food system and what I can do as a consumer to protect myself and insure that my family is eating nutritious food.

With a new tome in hand we continued on Hwy 5 through the beautiful Glacier National Park, crossed the border into Alberta and down into the town of Lake Louise. Missing the tourist center by 10 minutes and not finding any adequate RV camping nearby we decided to make the ultimate splurge. A 5 minute phone call later we were booked into a beautiful room at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Thanks to a hefty AAA discount we didn’t have to pawn Kodi to pay for our stay.

Without adequate parking for our little Kodster the valet guys told me to just leave him parked right in front of the hotel. LOL – talk about white trash. Here we are rolling up to this gorgeous chateau in our truck pulling a travel trailer and to top it off we are leaving it for everyone to gawk at. Kodi has never been so proud. I think the little bear logo on the side smiled a bit broader at the hilarity of the whole thing.
After checking in we availed our selves of the good weather and took a stroll around the still frozen lake. This place is a wonder to behold. It is truly gorgeous now but I bet it is stunning in the full bloom of summer. Our room had an exceptional view of the lake and the surrounding mountains and we cracked the windows get infuse the room with the crisp smell of spring in the Rockies.

In honor of our good fortune we popped open our first bottle of wine from our Sonoma tour, a delicious Cab-Franc from the Saint Francis winery. Once we were good and gussied up we strolled down to the Tom Wilson Steakhouse like a pair of rock stars and pulled off the evening with charm and elegance. From our table we had a gorgeous view of the mountains and KODI!!!!!! He was still pimping it in front of the hotel and we had a good laugh with the server about our transformation from trailer trash to chateau celebs.
Due to some under staffing the manager comped our drinks and they went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and well attended to. The meal was dynamite. Starting with an assortment of delicious tappas and ending with delectable perfectly cooked steaks, the night received two thumbs up from these two patrons.
We retired to the room after dinner and snuggled into our comfortable accommodations. We caught the latest episode of the Bachelor and then it was off to bed. Talk about fat and happy. Man oh man!
