Day 59 - Hurricane Ridge - Olympic Peninsula - National Park - Port Angeles

Headed our of Kent this morning under cloudy skies. I always love leaving when the weather is bad. It’s kind of like Winds of Fate are saying “Hey there is no more fun to be had here, set out for a new adventure.” So that is what we did.

We backtracked south a little to pick up the freeway to the Olympic peninsula. The drive was wonderfully wooded and the bridges we crossed offered us great views of the Sound. We made a quick stop at an Albertson’s deli for some sandwiches and refueling and were off again. We used the drive to make some phone calls to family and friends to catch up.

Our campsite as just east of Port Angeles on a nice little hill with rolling pasture between it and the mountains of the National Park. We put Kodi in his spot and took a little rest in the bench style swing near in the park and enjoyed the clearing weather and the view I just mentioned. Once we dropped off Kodi we took the Fox into town to do a bit of exploring and then made our way to the Olympic National Park visitor’s center.

The ranger was really helpful and in addition to giving us some hikes to do tomorrow she said we should take advantage of the clear sky’s and drive up to hurricane ridge. It is often times covered in clouds and to miss the views today would almost be sinful. Well you can guess that we took her up on the suggestion. Here is the video.

After our little alpine adventure we stopped in at the Safeway grocery store near our RV park and stocked up on some grub for the evening. Before the sun set I took a little time in the aforementioned swing to get a some work done and enjoy the clean air and the view.

I whipped up some dinner on the grill and we ate while we watched the final episode of Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel. Sad to see that series end but looking forward to picking it up on DVD.
