Day 31 - Kayaking in Newport

We went to church this morning with Laura and Lou. Their church is called The Crossing and is only about a 10 minute drive from their home. Housed in a semi-permanent tent like warehouse the exterior completely belied the true nature of what the interior would be like.

The church was hip: great lighting, comfortable seats and a warm and inviting atmosphere. The music matched this setting and the sermon was as relevant as it was contemporary. All in all Kamrin and I really enjoyed the church and wished something go its caliber existed in Orlando. Maybe we just need to look a little harder.

Anyhow after the message the four of us drove to Fashion Island, a shopping mall of sorts, to have some lunch at a nice little French café named Edwards. The fare was delicious and we enjoyed the bright colors and eclectic décor. The proprietor was a pleasant fellow and we enjoyed the candor of two Italian gentlemen that would have run of with Kamrin or at minimum given her toosh a pinch on the way out of the exit.

A quick trip by Golden Spoon seemed almost mandatory since it was so close to the restaurant. We did order small of course so as to not be too gluttonous following the Sunday service.

We dropped Lou off at home and changed into some play clothes for the afternoon’s activities. We stopped first at Eila’s house again to drop off some things and to meet Eila’s husband and daughter, Paul and Katherine. It was good to meet the rest of the gang as we lounged on the pool deck and watched the hummingbirds go wizzing by as they protected their territories.

We left Eila’s to start a kayaking tour from the back bay. SEE VIDEO. Kamrin and I started off in a tandem kayak as well as Laura and her yellow lab Ozzie. He was the talk of the town and everyone was gawked as we all paddled through the channels between the back bay and Balboa Island. Check out the Videdo

Laura picked up some fresh salmon from the little fish market adjacent to the kayak rental place and then we were off to home. We got cleaned up and then took a nice drive down Hwy 1 into Laguna Beach. We parked near the amazing Montage hotel and walked it’s grounds and toured the beach. We had a lot of fun looking around the tidepools and taking in the beauty of this place as the sun set. Here’s the video

We returned home and were treated to a delicious salmon dinner. We didn’t follow up the meal with Golden Spoon but we all wanted to.
