Day 38 - Easter at Cypress Point - Maters Golf - 17 Mile Drive Pebble Beach

Day 38

The sound of the surf and aviary served as our alarm clock this morning. I did some writing while Kam took aother 30 minutes to enjoy the coziness of the bed. When she did rise we donned our running shoes and headed out for a sunrise Easter morning walk. Watching the Pacific coast awaken was a real delight and we followed a stretch of the 17 mile drive towards the Equestrian were we parked Kodi last night.

There was a jumping competition at the center and we stayed and watched a few riders maneuver their horses through the course and over the many jumps and obstacles. This is the first time I had seen jumping live and gained anew appreciation for the athleticism of both the horses and their riders.

We continued our walk down to the Pebble Beach market and picked up a pair of hot drinks and then continued down to the lawn of the Pebble Beach Lodge and the Oceanside expanse of the 18th fairway. Due to our early arrival no one was teeing off so we walked along the length of the fairway to take some photo ops. It was so wonderful to be out in this incredible environment as the sun was beginning its vigil on Easter morn. It was easy to count our blessings and be thankful to the Lord for the bounty He has shown us in our lives and on this trip.

We strolled home in time to meet Don at the main house for some breakfast. Then it was off to get ready for our Easter brunch at Cypress Point Country Club. Don was kind enough to lend me an Easter tie and Jake picked the four of us up and drove us the short distance to the club.

What a spread. The brunch was delicious and the view was even better. We started with refreshments on the terrace with a breathtaking view of the ocean and the fairways below. Then it was off to the tables inside and to awaiting feast. Crab napoleon, lamb, quail, asparagus, salmon, wild rice and the list goes on. It was deliciously prepared and we all ate our fill. Then it was on to the desserts. Crème Brule, a dense chocolate cake and an absolutely sinful concoction called a Floating Island, oh and I failed to mention freshly baked oatmeal as well as chocolate chip cookies.

Whoa momma was it ever good. We retired from our smorgasbord back to the house to watch the remainder of the Masters golf tournament. I think all of us were in a mild state of torpor yet kept conscious by the exciting action on the links.

Kamrin and I drove along the 17 mile drive after the tournament ended and stopped off at about every turn off to marvel at the rugged coastlines and the lone cypress trees making a home upon the most unlikely perches. We continued through Carmel and along the scenic Oceanside drive, watching surfers and strollers also enjoying the mild weather and beautiful setting.

We returned home via Kodi, picking up some supplies for out hiking tomorrow then drove to a beautiful overlook to see the sun set into the Pacific.
