Day 7
I got up early this morning and it was beautiful. I took a good run and did some exercises and just enjoyed the morning’s peace and quiet.
While Kamrin slept I set up my computer out side and plugged into the outdoor electrical outlets of our trailer. I also plugged in our little coffee maker and as it began to bubble I started to do some blogging and much needed video editing. We had decided to take a ½ day so I could really get some content prepped for the site.
Sitting out there next to the pond and watching the sun rising above the trees made me so thankful for laptop computers and the freedom they provide those, who like me are allergic to the artificial light of and office building and the confines of a cubicle.
Kam got up a bit later and did her own workout as I typed, splice, sliced and rendered some blog and vlog entries. Upon returning she took to the stove top again and made some eggs and Turkey bacon for breakfast. Man this is the way to do the country. Lazy mornings spent at the picnic bench.
Alas the call of the open road lured us away from our daydreaming and we packed up and started west again. We traveled through Shreveport and watched as massive Bomber looking military jets crossed the freeway coming in for landings. Replete with casinos and billboards, Shreveport didn’t offer much in the way of enticement for the passing through traveler. At least not travelers of our persuasion looking for off the beaten path point of interest.
With the Lonestar State in our in our distant sites we put our head down and covered some miles. Kam and I have been trading off with the driving duties and the partnership makes for a really pleasant way to cross the country. We’re loving the trip thus far and the road has been treating us well. The only time the road isn’t treating us well is when it is a sectionalized freeway. Not many around anymore since most have been upgraded, however watch as Kamrin deals with a lovely piece of driving just west of the Texas border.
We passed the time playing a game my Dad gave us called Chit-Chat which is a box full of questions. Even though we are going on two years of marriage and feel like we know each other pretty well we were occasionally surprised by each others answers.
Yehaaaa! Texas. We crossed the border and pulled over for a self photo to document our border crossing. The tourist info desk at the rest stop stocked us up with maps and camping information and then we returned to the road. It wasn’t long before we saw the outline of Dallas on the horizon. Taking the beltway around the city we made it up to the Mosley’s home with time to spare.
The Mosley’s live in a cute neighborhood which fortunately had wide streets providing us a place to park Kodi without having to perform any contortionist reversing techniques. Viki greeted us with hugs and introduced us to her canine companion Lizzie. Kamrin fawned over the dog and would have absconded with her had it not been bad form for a guest to steal the hosts dog.
We shared news and gossip with Viki for a while and then Mary Thornton and Christopher Mosley showed up with their dog Bogey and the doggie mayhem ensued. It was hilarious to watch the two pups racing around the house and wrestling right in the midst of our conversation.
With grumbling stomachs we all were treated to a dinner at the Oaks Country Club. It was fun having dinner with family so many miles away from home. Our discussion carried on a bit after dinner and we were given our “must see” list for Dallas/Fort Worth as well as Seattle, since Christopher and Mary Thornton used to live there.
So with our marching order for tomorrow we returned home and went swiftly to bed.
